I have had a very interesting week in Switzerland. Intensive French classes in the morning (conducted in French, no English allowed) and several other subjects in the afternoon. I learned a few things:

One, I really need to do more to keep up my French. Especially speaking it more...

Second, most of my other subjects I have studied before, like organizing various types of parties or style analysis, but that was mostly with my mother, aunt Beatrice or self study from books. Having a truly knowledgeble a teacher pull it all together is wonderful. Their knowledge and skills just helps me to give that extra bit of polish.

We had classes last week in table scaping, complete with creating our own flower arrangements etc. This was the result of my idea yesterday:

And with the candles on:

It's not everyone's cup of tea, but I am having a great time.

That... is really pink. Can you do like a grey or blue or something?

We had to draw cards... One was for the theme. I had 'spring'. The second was for the flowers you had to use and I drew the camellia's.

Blue and grey don't really work with that...

You could do that thing where you take a white flower and put in water with food coloring so the flower turns the color of the food coloring. Maybe it's a rainy spring day.

I'll keep it in mind for next time, but that trick did not work I had. It were the pink camellia's I had...

I was lucky though. At least I did not draw the cactus with the theme of 'silk'. That would have been a lot harder.

Not so difficult, if you used a desert bloom theme and emphasized how many cacti grow so many beautiful flowers overnight when it rains in the desert. Silk table settings and drape cloths in sunset colors, I think that would be stunning.

I already called the cactus and silk themed birthday party, but you can have it if you want.

Wade! You could use this theme and have a 18th Century Western themed party and wear your cowboy hat!

Oh, I haven't gotten a chance to wear my cowboy hat since the unfortunate Halloween incident. We should totally do this!

I want a cactus and silk themed birthday party now. Keep that in mind for August.

That table looks like a princess' birthday party threw up on it.

Glad you're having fun, thoug.

Hey, another suggestion for my portfolio for which kind of occasions this setting might work. Princess themed dinner has been added.

Well done. The open work chargers are especially inspired. My only suggestion would be that the floral seat cushions were perhaps a bit overkill.

I think you might be right.

The neutral white of the chairs themselves might have been a better background for the tableware itself.

You were on the right track, though. I think a white tone-on-tone floral jacquard for the chairs would have been a lovely nod.

That would have made a lovely picture indeed! Put the accent more on the structure of the material instead of the colors.

Exactly. Of course, it's all very easy for me to say looking at a picture of a finished product with no time constraints. Again, well done.
